The
University of Rhode Island Multicultural Center in conjunction with the Center for Student Leadership
Development will present the Second Annual Retreat for
Multicultural Student Organizations at Camp Canonicus in Exeter, Rhode Island on
Saturday and Sunday, September 7th & 8th,
2002.
The goals of the
conference are to identify, measure and increase the skills of past,
present and future student leaders in assessing their leadership and
interaction styles, developing a vision and mission statements, and
creating action plans.
Retreat facilitators
are Dorien Agyapon, Lazaro Camacho, Ammala Douangsavanh, Cristina
Garcia, Kevin Lopes, Carlos Pena, Cynthia Reeves, and Muhammad
Shloul.
Do you belong to a
Multicultural Student Organization that is committed to:

improving
access for under-represented groups

building
campus community across identity lines; or,
-
engaging students
in social change
Then the Multicultural Center
and the Center for Student Leadership Program, would like you to join us in a fun and
educational two day retreat at Camp Canonicus on
September 7th and 8th.
The event promises to:

Provide you
with the skills necessary for developing an effective
organizational action plan for the coming year

Help you
increase the productivity of your organization

Offer support
and feedback to student leaders interested in understanding
their own values, roles and styles as leaders

Create
opportunities for learning
-
Provide a
support system to help you persist through to graduation

Provide you
with opportunities to network and create common goals with
other Multicultural Student Organizations
-
Have LOTS
of FOOD, FUN and even more FUN!
All participants
in the retreat will be eligible to take part in a series of
follow-up workshops intended to prepare student leaders in
avoiding the stress that leads to burn-out and lowered morale, as
well as encourage peer consultation and collaboration and to link
student organizations to each other and their resource bases.
