Alan Jabbour and Class (487K)

    Nils Caspersson and Class(559K)

WHO WE ARE

This one-week summer program seeks to acquaint participants with the origins and development of American traditions and strives to strengthen democratic institutions. In doing so, we hope to help individuals and groups to negotiate "global citizenship." This is done by:

  • Offering quality learning experiences with master musicians, dancers, writers, storytellers, dramatists, visual artists, crafts people and other educators
  • Creating safe spaces for public dialogue and
  • Presenting opportunities for performance

"The arts are a way to help bridge cultures and to explore our own identities.
Actually practicing the arts of other cultures narrows the distance between cultures and helps us understand the roots of our identities."

--Melvin Wade

WHAT ARE THE SPECIALIZED COMPONENTS OF WVWV?

Through World Village, World Learning and World Arts; WVWV seeks to enhance understanding and appreciation of the diverse streams of American culture, identity, and community through exposure to and participation in traditional arts and public dialogue.

WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED IN WORLD VOICES, World VISIONS

In World Arts learn traditional music, dancing and creative arts through hands-on instruction in fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica and drums.  Sing in a choir, or learn African Dance, New England contra dance, Salsa, songwriting, cloth making and more.

Teachers can earn graduate or continuing credits by attending World Learning, where they will enhance awareness, understanding and competence in addressing multicultural issues in the K-12 classroom.

Kids will have fun participating in music, dance, drama and crafts in World Village, drawing on the traditions of myriad cultures within the U.S. and around the world.
