Welcome to World Voices World Visions 2005! Bring your fiddle, banjo, guitar, harmonica, mandolin, dulcimer, sitar, or drums for hands-on instruction. Practice singing, songwriting and dancing. Learn about the power of folk music. Discuss cultural issues in the classroom with K-12 colleagues. Participants of all ages and all levels of expertise from novice to expert are welcome at the third annual World Voices, World Visions folk music and dance camp. The camp will be held at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI, from Sunday, July 17 through Friday, July 22, 2005.

Camp Highlights:

Evening Programs: Each evening offers an array of participation opportunities including Open Singing, Dancing and Drumming all led by members of our faculty. We'll also have a Grand Concert on the evening of Friday, July 22, and everyone will be part of the Student-Teacher Recital on Thursday evening, July 21.

Programs for Adults & Children:

World Arts for Adults and Teens: In addition to American and Celtic music and dance programs, the camp will offer workshops devoted to the diverse traditions of music, dance, and culture from Cambodia, Nigeria, India, Cape Verde and Guatemala, along with a capstone dialogue intended to knit together the themes of the camp.

World Village for Children: In line with the family orientation of the camp, children from 5 to 13 can attend World Village, a program of activities designed to build community through music, dance, crafts, storytelling, and games. World Village will be coordinated by educator Clarissa Uttley, storyteller Valerie Tutson, and drummer Masankho Banda, with the participation of other performers.
