URI- INDIA EXPEDITION

 Mammal Research: Sustainable Development in Coffee Growing Regions

 This expedition consists of a three-week research program that will examine the use of coffee farms in India by small and medium-sized mammals.  Prior to the fieldwork, all students will enroll in one or two courses (3-6 credits) that will prepare them as individuals and team members.  Upon completion of the course, students will live in the field and work with URI and other faculty to live trap and study mammals on-site in India.  Data from this research will provide unique information that will help professionals manage the biodiversity in India and other coffee growing countries around the world.

Application for Admission

This expedition consists of a three-week research program that will examine the use of coffee farms in India by small and medium-sized mammals.  Prior to the fieldwork, all students will enroll in one or two courses (3-6 credits) that will prepare them as individuals and team members.  Upon completion of the course, students will live in the field and work with URI and other faculty to live trap and study mammals on-site in India.  Data from this research will provide unique information that will help professionals manage the biodiversity in India and other coffee growing countries around the world. 

Approximate cost, not including airfare, is about $2,000 (U.S.).  Notice of acceptance will occur via email approximately January 15, 2010. A non-refundable deposit of $500 will be required by January 28, 2010. A schedule for future payments will be distributed to particiapants in January. Deposit checks and subsequent payments will be given to Professor Husband or Abedon and all checks should be made payable to the University of Rhode Island Foundation with a note that it is for account number 5873.
