[ Freshmen ] Freshman to compete in Irish dancing world championships : Mary Catherine Rocca, a freshman at the University of Rhode Island, will compete in the Irish dancing world championships in Belfast on April 8th after winning her regional competition and placing second in the United States this year.

[ Volunteers ] Watershed Watch seeks volunteers to monitor lakes, ponds, streams : Volunteers from the Watershed Watch program at the University of Rhode Island have monitored water quality in local ponds, rivers and streams for 25 years, and it has given them tremendous insight into how climate affects the health of these water bodies.

"It's such an electrifying atmosphere," Morrone said. "If anything you feel so incredibly humbled by the stage that you're walking onto."

When an eye doctor performs surgery, chances are Michelle Pelletier played a role in ensuring the quality of the doctor's instruments. The University of Rhode Island engineering graduate supports the manufacturing lines that produce the instruments for cauterizing tissue in the eye.

URI in the News

Fish don’t only hunt with their eyes, they also have the ability to sense water movement and vibrations through an internal mechanism referred to as the lateral line system. Jacqueline Webb, a professor at the University of Rhode Island studying sensory biology and development of fish, has been researching this system.
