Percussion

Candidates auditioning in percussion are expected to have a basic knowledge of at least two of the three fundamental percussion instruments (snare drum, mallet keyboard or timpani) and perform solo literature on at least one of these instruments.

Additionally, snare drum performers will be expected to execute a closed roll from soft to loud and back to soft and have knowledge of flams and three and four stroke ruffs.

Mallet keyboard performers will be expected to play two octave ascending and descending major scales and arpeggios at a moderate tempo.

Timpanists will be expected to tune the timpani to intervals of fourths and fifths, execute a roll from soft to loud and back to soft, and demonstrate one major hand technique.
