University Artist Series:  Trombone artist Gabriel Langfur and The Massachusetts Bay Trombone Authority.  URI Artist/Teacher of Trombone, Gabriel Langfur, presents a concert with members of the MBTA, John Faieta, Wes Hopper and Don Lucas, performing original and transcribed music for trombone quartet.  The program includes a wide range of music by Raymond Premru, Anthony Plog, Alun Hoddinott, Claude Gervaise and Astor Piazzolla. The group will give a public master class for free at 5:30 pm following the concert.  3:00 pm.

University Artist Series:  John Monllos Ensemble.  "A Slice of Jazz Guitar History with John Monllos".  The guitar has a long history in jazz music, as both an ensemble and solo instrument. This concert will feature the music of select jazz guitarists such as Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joe Pass, and a few original twists.  Grammy nominated pianist Joe Parillo performs with Monllos and a rhythm section.  From early swing to the bossa nova style of Brazil, Latin Jazz, modern jazz of today, this concert will have something exciting for everyone!  7:30 pm.

URI Symphony Orchestra:  Ann Danis, director. This special Halloween-themed concert will feature a complete performance of Geoffrey Gibb's musical for children Dracula's Party.  The afternoon activities will involve pumpkin decorating, costume judging, hayrides (depending on weather), and a concert involving the URI Symphony Orchestra and singers performing Dracula's Party, as well as other works of the season.  Family activities start at1:00 pm and are free.  Concert at 4:00 pm, General Admission $10 and Students $5.

University Artist Series:  "Being Music," a concert by the Aurea Ensemble and singer Rene de la Garza.  Aurea ensemble includes Charles (violin) and Consuelo Sherba, (viola), Nigel Gore (actor) and Chris Turner (Harmonica and other instruments) and featuring Rene de la Garza, baritone. The program includes music of Loeffler, Rachmaninoff, Bowles and Fussell with words of Verlaine, Walt Whitman and Pushkin.  8:00 pm.

URI Opera Theatre:  Rene de la Garza, director.   The Opera Theatre  presents Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl and The Night Visitors. The opera was first televised in 1950 and broadcast on NBC. The holiday opera tells the story of a poor crippled boy and his mother who are visited by the Magi. Also on the program will be opera scene selections from various operas.  3:00 pm.

Jazz Session I:  Student Combos, Joe Parillo, coordinator.  An evening of jazz by exceptional students as they perform in combos and Big Bands in styles ranging from Swing to Be Bop to the Blues to the Beatles.  While they donŐt take up much space on stage, these chamber jazz groups make a roomful of cool sounds!  7:30 pm.

Jazz Session II: C100 Big Band, John Monllos, director. This fifteen-plus piece band featuring a student vocalist spread the joy of jazz.  The band performs music from artists such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Thad Jones, to modern composers and arrangers such as Bob Mintzer, Maria Schneider, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Gordon Goodwin and others.  7:30 pm.

Jazz Session III:  B101 Big Band, Joe Parillo, director  and URI Concert Band, Brian Cardany, director.  A rare combination of ensemble talents in performance compare and  contrast the classical wind band literature with the sounds of contemporary big band jazz.  8:00 pm.
