URI Symphony Orchestra

symporchestra

The tradition of excellence of the University of Rhode Island Symphony Orchestra dates back to the 1930s. As one of the most synergetic entities on our campus, the URI Symphony Orchestra offers a space where students from all majors and minors, faculty, staff, and community musicians collaborate together to give major orchestral performances throughout the academic year.

The orchestra performs literature from the standard repertoire, collaborates with URI´s choral and other instrumental ensembles, and features faculty, student soloists, and guest artists in its concerts.

As an ensemble that takes part in several new music initiatives, the URI Symphony Orchestra champions the music written by minority composers in each of its concerts.

Since the Fall of 2023, the URI Symphony Orchestra has been conducted by Dr. Luis Víquez, Director of Orchestral Studies. For more information about the orchestra or to inquire about auditions, please email Dr. Viquez
