Alumni named WebMD ‘Health Heroes’ University provides key support
Since epilepsy took the life of their 5-year-old son, Matty Siravo, Richard and Debra Siravo have raised money and awareness through The Matty Fund with the help of local organizations, including the University of Rhode Island. The Matty Fund came to life in 2003 in the basement of their home in Wakefield.
For all of their efforts, the Siravos were named one of four WebMD Health Heroes in November, which was National Epilepsy Awareness month. They were the first Rhode Islanders to receive the award. The WebMD Health Heroes award celebrates visionary Americans who met a health challenge and gave back to others in an inspiring way, according to the WebMD website. The heroes are featured in the November/December issue of WebMD the Magazine.
