Faculty Forum Keynote Presentation from Dr. Charles Blaich, Director of the Wabash National Study of Liberal Arts Education (1/29/10)
The University of Rhode Island completed its second year of participation (2007-2008, 2008-2009) in the Wabash National Study of Liberal Arts Education sponsored by The Center of Inquiry at Wabash College. The Wabash Study, which began in the fall of 2006, includes 49 colleges and universities to date. This is a longitudinal study which investigates critical factors that affect the student outcomes of a liberal arts education through both institutional and student data. Our first group of freshmen will complete the study during the second semester of their senior year (2011).
The Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts at Wabash College and their assessment partners from other institutions work with faculty, staff, and students at participating institutions to identify key questions they have about their campuses. On April 1, 2009 a group from the Center of Inquiry joined URI for a day-long visit with faculty, staff, administration, and students to discuss the first-year data results. Follow-up data analyses are planned.
