NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- January 11, 2000 -- The Michael P. Metcalf Institute
for Marine and Environmental Reporting is accepting applications for its
second annual workshop for journalists to be held on June 25-30, 2000. The
deadline for application submissions is February 1.
This year's institute will focus on measuring change in the coastal
environment and feature workshops on fisheries, beach erosion, and water
and air pollution. Twelve fellowships will be offered to journalists to
attend the workshop at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography in Narragansett,
Rhode Island.
The URI Graduate School of Oceanography's Michael P. Metcalf Institute
for Marine and Environmental Reporting, provides working journalists in
all media with room and board to work with scientists and policy experts
in the field and lab. Metcalf fellows conduct research, interpret data,
and discuss the implications of their findings. The workshop covers locating
