Multicultural scholarships available to study
environmental, food, agricultural sciences at URI
KINGSTON, R.I. -- March 28, 2000 -- The University of Rhode Island announces
a new four-year scholarship program to encourage multicultural students
to study environmental, food and agricultural sciences.
"Today's complex environmental and agricultural problems require
the attention of a wide range of individuals with different viewpoints and
prospective solutions," explains scholarship coordinator Deborah Grossman-Garber.
"This new scholarship is designed to encourage underrepresented students
to study these subjects."
Incoming freshmen who choose to study in URI's College of the Environment
and Life Sciences and who qualify as economically, socially or culturally
disadvantaged are eligible to apply.
Five students will be chosen from the applicant pool to receive $5,700
per year for four years. Selection will be based on academic achievement,
letters of recommendation, personal interviews, and evidence of interest
and commitment to studying the required subject areas.
For more information or to apply, contact Grossman-Garber at 874-5401
or via email to dggarber@uri.edu. Application deadline is April 14.
