R. I. Geriatric Education Center to present workshop
On Age-Related changes and Geriatric Assessment
To be held Tuesday, May 9 at URI's W. Alton Jones Campus
KINGSTON, R.I. -- May 5, 2000 -- The Rhode Island Geriatric Education
Center will present "Workshop I, Age-Related Changes and Geriatric
Assessment" at the University of Rhode Island's W. Alton Jones Campus
in West Greenwich, on Tuesday, May 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The workshop will feature presentations on physical and psychosocial
age-related changes and functional assessment. Members of the center's
faculty will present a model team assessment conference and facilitate small
group discussions of case studies.
Continuing education units or continuing medical education credits will
be awarded to nurses, nursing home administrators, pharmacists, physicians,
and social workers. Other health care professionals are welcome to attend.
The registration fee, which includes materials, lunch, and refreshments,
is $85. Parking is available at no cost. Three or more individuals from
the same agency who register and submit payment together will receive a
$15/person discount. To register, call the Graduate Professional Center,
URI Feinstein College of Continuing Education, at 277-5200. Seating is limited
and registrations will be accepted on a space-available basis.
The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center, located at the University
of Rhode Island, offers a Certificate in Interdisciplinary Practice in Geriatrics
upon completion of five workshops and two advanced practice seminars. These
programs do not need to be taken in sequence.
RIGEC (Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center) is a consortium of the
URI Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Human Science and Services, Rhode
Island College School of Social Work, Brown University School of Medicine,
and Aging 2000. The mission of the center is to improve knowledge and skills
in geriatrics and gerontology among health care and human service professionals
in order to better meet the needs of the growing elderly population. Please
