URI to host hold team training workshop June 7
KINGSTON, R.I. -- May 24, 2000 -- The Rhode Island Geriatric Education
Center will present a team-training workshop at the University of Rhode
Island's Kingston Campus Wednesday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Presenters will be Theresa Drinka, Ph.D., president of River's Edge Consulting
and Phillip G. Clark, Sc.D, URI professor and director of the program in
gerontology. He is also director of the Rhode Island Geriatric Education
Center, which is based at URI.
The workshop will feature presentations, dialogue, and case discussions
on teamwork issues, focusing on leadership and ethics. This workshop is
ideal for students, health and human service professionals, and others who
work or plan to work in collaborative settings. The day's activities will
blend teamwork theory and practice to give participants a framework for
identifying and solving problems in teams.
Drinka has more than 20 years of experience developing, managing, and
evaluating work teams. In 1996, she established River's Edge Consulting
to train teams in health care, education, information technology, and other
service settings throughout North America. She focuses on assisting teams
and organizations that want to create positive change, specializing in assisting
teams that are experiencing difficulty.
Clark specializes in interdisciplinary education program development
and ethical issues in teamwork in health care settings. He has developed
several interdisciplinary, collaborative programs at URI during the past
20 years.
Drinka and Clark are the authors of the forthcoming book, Health Care
Teamwork: Interdisciplinary Practice and Teaching, to be published this
fall by Auburn House.
The $20 registration includes coffee, refreshments, lunch and materials.
Payment may be made by cash or check, made out to the University of Rhode
Island. A visitor's parking pass and campus map may be obtained at the
Visitor's Center on Upper College Road. Advance registration is required.
The workshop will be held in Galanti Lounge, which is located on the third
