URI's Feinstein-CCE to give out $180,000
worth of scholarships
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- June 7, 2000 -- If you're thinking about returning
to school, don't let money stand in your way. The University of Rhode Island's
Feinstein College of Continuing Education in Providence has $180,000 worth
of scholarships to award.
Some of the scholarships are based on merit only, others are based on
merit and need. While criteria on the scholarships vary, the deadline to
apply for all of them is August 1.
The scholarship money comes from a variety of generous donors. The most
recent scholarship was established by Arizona attorney Suzi Norbeck. Norbeck
was a young mother with three children while completing her undergraduate
work at URI's College of Continuing Education. She created the scholarship
to give a helping hand to others who must balance school, home, and budget.
Other funds come from the Rhode Island and Southeastern New England Chapter
of the National Association of Credit Management, the Dr. Richard M. Bianco
Scholarship, the Anna and Greg Demetrakas Scholarship, the Jill Smith Ellsworth
Scholarship, the Lillian and Alan Feinstein Scholarship, the Janice Paff
Memorial Scholarship, the John Shepard II Memorial Scholarship, and the
Harold Stanzler Endowment Scholarship.
In addition, donor Doug Johnson has set up a fund to support studentswho
may need testing and/or tutorial help through the College's AcademicLearning
Center.
