URI hosts septic system seminar Oct. 2
Training program helps town officials
understand wastewater issues
KINGSTON, R.I. -- September 22, 2000 -- The University of Rhode Island
Cooperative Extension is sponsoring a workshop about the operation and maintenance
of septic systems on Monday, Oct. 2 from 3 to 6 p.m. The workshop will
be held at the URI On-Site Wastewater Training Center at Peckham Farm on
Route 138 in Kingston.
Designed for town officials and other interested citizens in communities
establishing wastewater management programs, the workshop will provide an
overview of conventional and advanced treatment systems and related issues.
Among the topics to be covered are: low-cost improvements to conventional
systems, extending system life, drainfield options, alternative systems,
and maintenance requirements.
The workshop leader will be David Dow, manger of the On-site Wastewater
Training Center.
Cost of the program is $15 and includes handouts, instruction and refreshments.
