URI to host program for all librarians in state
KINGSTON, R.I. -- October 6, 2000 -- Attention all librarians! The University
of Rhode Island will host an interactive program for all Rhode Island librarians
on Friday, October 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the University Club
on Upper College Road.
Cerise Oberman, dean of Library & Information Services at SUNY- Plattsburgh
and founder of the Association of College and Research Libraries' Institute
for Information Literacy, will speak on "Partnerships for the Information
Literate Community: A National Effort."
Oberman has spearheaded nationwide efforts to help school and community
groups take advantage of new electronic resources. She co-chairs the American
Library Association's Special Presidential Committee on Information Literacy
Community Partnerships.
Breakout sessions will follow her talk. Participants will work on developing
initiatives for building information literacy in Rhode Island communities.
