URI to host Transportation Forum Oct. 13
KINGSTON, R.I. -- October 10, 2000 -- The University of Rhode Island's
Transportation Center will host its 13th annual Rhode Island Transportation
Forum on Friday, October 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union
Ballroom on the Kingston Campus. The event is being held in collaboration
with the Construction Industries of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Department
of Transportation.
The forum is designed to address issues of importance to the transportation
industry and to showcase the many transportation-related research projects
being undertaken by URI.
The forum's keynote speaker is C. Michael Walton, a professor of civil
engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and former chairman of
the executive committee of the Transportation Research Board, who will discuss
the Future Strategic Highway Research Program. Other guest speakers include
Reynaldo Roque from the University of Florida on "TheSuperPave Low-Temperature
Cracking Model," and Peter Romano, director of Paving Services for
the American Concrete Pavement Association, on "White Topping and Ultra-Thin
White Topping Design and Construction."
Among the URI research projects that will be discussed are those involving
transportation mapping systems, development of lightweight concrete and
new asphalt mixtures, traffic control, and the use of dredge material.
