URI's Women's Leadership Conference
to be held November 2
KINGSTON, R.I. -- October 25, 2000 -- The Women's Center and the Center
for Student Leadership Development at the University of Rhode Island will
host the second annual Women's Leadership Conference on Thursday, November
2. Myrth York will be the keynote speaker. The public is invited.
Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. To
pre-register, call the Memorial Union Leadership at 874-2056.
The title of this year's conference is "Highlighting the Past: Lighting
the Way for the Future."
"Our emphasis this year is to remind women of what an important
privilege voting is and that it was not handed to us," said Sara Bendoraitis,
URI Women's Center coordinator. "Our great- grandmothers and grandmothers
had to fight for this privilege. Women today need to take advantage of their
right to gain leadership in their everyday lives and careers".
Numerous workshops will be held on such topics as consciousness raising
and everyday activism and action. Dinner, dessert, and conference materials
will also be provided. The cost of the conference is $5 for students and
senior citizens, $10 for faculty, staff, and community members.
