NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- February 23, 2001 -- The fourth in a series of public meetings to discuss the commercial fishing licensing system in Rhode Island will be held on Thursday, March 1 at 6 p.m. in Corless Auditorium on the University of Rhode Islands Bay Campus. Hosted by the URI Coastal Institute, the meeting is free and open to the public.
The meeting is planned as a work session designed to discuss the various licensing options and will begin with a review of the current licensing system. Topics to be covered include discussion of reporting requirements, types of licenses, license fees, and duration and period of licenses.
This discussion will continue at a follow-up session scheduled for Thursday, March 8 at 6 p.m. in Corless Auditorium. In addition to the above topics, limits to fishing effort and access changes will also be discussed.
