KINGSTON, R.I. -- April 4, 2001 -- The University of Rhode Island will offer free, anonymous and confidential alcohol screenings as part of the National Alcohol Screening Day on Thursday, April 12. All screenings will be given from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union Gallery where the first 150 people will receive a free coupon for Ronzios pizza.
The screenings involve a paper and pencil questionnaire concerning drinking patterns. They also "give the participant an opportunity to talk to someone about any concerns they might have over drinking," said Stephen Myles of URIs Counseling Center. "The participant can also ask questions or express their concerns for friends and family members they feel might have a drinking problem as well."
The event is part of the National Mental Illness Screening Project and is sponsored by the URI Counseling Center and Office of Student Life. For more information contact Stephen Myles at 874-2288.
