KINGSTON, R. I. -- April 5, 2001 -- The eleventh annual Women of Color Conference will be held in the University of Rhode Islands Multicultural Center on Wednesday, April 18. It is free and open to anyone who registers before April 12.
The title of the conference is "Women of Color and Their Allies: Meeting in the Middle." Its theme deals with the complex issues with terms such as "diverse" and "multicultural." Who really is "multicultural" and who isnt?
The keynote speaker, Saveena Dhall, is an assistant dean and director of the Asian American Culture Center at Yale. Dhall, who has also been working for the Inter-Relations Collaborative for the last 10 years, will speak on how we, as a culture, need to appreciate differences and recognize the similarities in everyone.
The conference will begin with registration at 3:30 p.m. and continues with two sets of workshops, dinner and the keynote speech. Those wishing to attend the conference can sign up in URIs Office of Student Life or via the Womens Centers email: email@example.com.
Those who do not register by April 12 will be charged a $5 fee at the door to cover the cost of dinner and the conference materials.
