KINGSTON, R.I. -- June 8, 2001 -- The University of Rhode Islands Fashion Merchandising Society had a packed audience cheering wildly for its annual spring fashion show in the Memorial Union Ballroom.
The show entitled "Ambrosia, Sweet Intoxication," was inspired by Greek and Roman mythology that claimed ambrosia was the food of the goods and imparted immortality.
The shows set featured pillars, grapevines, and flowers to create the image of a haven for gods and goddesses, according to Vannou Nhem, of Cranston, president of the Fashion Merchandising Society and a URI psychology major.
Nhem was just one of the many designers who displayed and modeled their clothes. Students presented 14 clothing lines, for a total of 50 to 60 individual outfits.
In addition to Nhem, other society officers were: Annalasia Amato, of Johnston, vice president; Jessica Pereria, of East Providence, treasurer and Kristie DiLuna, of Boxborough, Mass.; J.D. Laing, of North Kingstown, and John Morgan of Warwick, public relations committee.
