R.I. Geriatric Education Center
presents program for health care providers

KINGSTON, R.I., -- October 17, 2001 -- The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center will present "Risk Management in Geriatrics: Legal and Ethical Issues-Workshop II" at the University of Rhode Island’s Providence Campus on Monday, Nov. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The workshop will feature presentations on basic ethical issues in caring for older persons and values in professional codes of ethics. Attorney David F. Reilly will discuss legal dimensions of elder care. Panel discussions and interdisciplinary small group discussions will be included.

Continuing education credits have been approved for nurses and continuing medical education credits have been approved for physicians. Applications have been submitted for continuing education credits for assisted living administrators (R.I.), nursing home administrators (R.I.), and social workers. Subsequent continuing education approval forms will be available for registered dietitians. Other health care professionals are welcome to attend.

The registration fee, which includes materials, lunch, refreshments and parking, is $100. Group rates are available. The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center, located at the University of Rhode Island, offers a certificate in Interdisciplinary Practice in Geriatrics upon completion of Workshops I-V and Advanced Practice Seminars I and II. These programs do not need to be taken in sequence.

RIGEC (Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center) is a consortium of the URI Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy and Human Science and Services, Rhode Island College School of Social Work, Brown University School of Medicine, and Aging 2000. The mission of the center is to improve knowledge and skills in geriatrics and gerontology among health care providers to better meet the needs of the growing elderly population.
