Get your heart running smoothly
with URI Valentines Tune Ups
KINGSTON, R.I. -- February 10, 2003 -- With Valentines Day right around the corner its time to tune up your relationship.
The University of Rhode Islands Family Therapy Clinic offers a chance for people to explore their relationships with their partners on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Memorial Union, Atrium 2. The "Relationship Tune Up" is free and open to the public, and no appointment is necessary. Refreshments will be served.
"We give couples the chance to identify and enhance their strengths, reduce trouble spots, find out about their communication styles," according to Mike Knerr, a student in the 36-credit masters program Marriage and Family Therapy, which also requires a year-long internship.
Couples will participate in a brief, non-stressful assessment, and then graduate-student therapists, under the supervision of faculty, will discuss the results of the assessments.
"This is about having a good time together, while learning more about each other," Knerr said.
If a couple finds serious trouble spots, they can always seek further assistance from the clinic, Knerr said.
If a couple cant attend the Feb. 12 program and want to participate in the Tune Up, they can call Dale Blumen, director of the clinic, at 874-5551.
