NARRAGANSETT, RI -- April 21, 2003 -- There is still time for budding marine scientists in grades 6, 7, and 8 to sign up for Oceanography Explorer Day Camp at the Graduate School of Oceanography's Narragansett Bay Campus.

Camp will be held on Tuesday-Friday, July 8-11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Designed with the interests of the age group in mind, instructors have a variety of exciting and educational activities planned while campers explore barrier beaches, salt ponds, rocky shores, and salt marshes.

URI Marine Outreach Scientists have developed a curriculum that will introduce campers to marine science in a fun, hands-on way. In addition to shoreline-based activities, a trip aboard a coastal vessel is also planned for campers to discover what’s going on beneath the ocean’s surface.

Enrollment in Oceanography Explorer Day Camp sessions is limited to ensure high-level supervision and interaction with instructors. The cost is $280 per child, which includes a camp t-shirt, all classroom and lab materials, and daily transportation to field trip sites in Rhode Island.
