23 students inducted into honor societyat
URIs Feinstein College of Continuing Education
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- May 20, 2003 -- Families, friends, and alumni gathered at the
University of Rhode Islands Feinstein Providence Campus last month to honor the 2003 Alpha Sigma Lambda , Epsilon Rho Chapter inductees in its annual initiation ceremony. Alpha Sigma Lambda is a national honor society for nontraditional students who achieve academic excellence while handling lifes competing responsibilities. John H. McCray, Jr., vice provost of urban programs at the campus, gave opening remarks.

Frederick Meli, a professor as well as a former URI continuing education student and honor society member, was the recipient of the Dr. Gilbert Mongeau award. The Mongeau Award is presented annually to a faculty or staff member who has displayed a sincere dedication to the success of Feinstein-CCE students. The late Mongeau was a URI/CCE professor and CCE student. He was a strong advocate for adult students; and with the assistance of then Dean Walter Crocker, established Alpha Sigma Lambda at URI/CCE in 1982.
