KINGSTON, R.I. -- October 8, 2003 -- The University of Rhode Islands Kingston Campus will be bursting with excitement the last weekend in October as thousands flock to Kingston for the annual Family Weekend Program, Oct. 24-26.
Family Weekend includes a variety of entertaining and educational activities for URI students and their families. Some of the highlights include the opportunity for families to attend classes with their student(s), and open houses on Friday.
On Saturday, The Main Event will give parents the opportunity to tour the newly renovated Ballentine Hall, followed by a lecture given by the Dean of the College of Business Administration, Edward M. Mazze. His talk, "The State of Business," will cover some of the issues facing business professionals today.
Then its on to a tour of the wonderful new athletic facilities enjoyed by students and community members, a Women's Gymnastics Team Exhibition, and an exciting football game at noon against the College of William and Mary, a post-game reception, and more.
Saturday evening will end with the performance of comedian Brad Sherwood who is a regular cast member on ABC's "Whose Line is it Anyway?," and who also appears on live episodes of The Drew Carey Show and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Sherwood will single-handedly juggle improvisational roles with audience participation in this all-improvised "Whose Line-style" show.
The weekend concludes on Sunday with the Presidents Brunch and a womens soccer game against Duquesne University at 2 p.m.
This year, there are two registration options: The All-inclusive $35 Blue Card option covers eight events valued at over $50. Children under 12 and adults over 65 pay $17. The Brunch-only White Card option is $17 for all. Registration is required. Football game tickets are not included.
