KINGSTON, R.I. -- November 13, 2003 -- Forensic experts Sharon Nelson and John Simek will discuss methods and tools that help them gather computer evidence as part of the University of Rhode Island Forensic Science Seminar Series.
The presentation, "Computer Forensics: Sherlock Holmes Goes Digital," will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 20 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Pastore Hall, Room 124 on URI’s Kingston Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Nelson and Simek will discuss how they gather electronic evidence and how the scientists preserve, authenticate and analyze this data. They will also talk about career opportunities and the job market.
Their company, Sensei Enterprises, is a nationally recognized legal technology and computer forensics company based in Fairfax, Va. that lends technological support to the legal and corporate communities. In their work, Nelson and Simek have uncovered millions of dollars in embezzled funds, proven the guilt of child pornographers and unearthed secrets from the hard drive of a murder victim. Their clients include Prudential Securities, Foster’s International, the Fairfax City Police Department and the U.S. Senate.
Nelson, the president of Sensei Enterprises, has been in private practice since graduating from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978. Simek, the vice-president, has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and a master’s degree in finance from Saint Joseph’s University.
The seminar series is a semester-long program offered by the URI Forensic Science Partnership. The seminars take place every Thursday in Pastore Hall from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
