URI Writers' Collective sponsors reading

KINGSTON, R.I.-- October 27, 1998 -- The University of Rhode Island Writers' Collective will host a creative non-fiction reading featuring authors Mary Cappello and Angel Green on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Free and open to the public, the reading will take place from 45 p.m., in the Hoffmann Common Room of Independence Hall on the Kingston Campus. Refreshments and conversation will follow the readings.

Mary Cappello of Providence, R.I., is an associate professor of English at URI where she teaches courses in creative writing, gender studies, and American literature. She writes poetry, creative non-fiction, and literary criticism. She will be reading from her memoir, Night Bloom, which was recently published by Beacon Press.

Angel Green of Newport, R.I., is a Ph.D. Candidate in the URI English Department. In the spring of 1998 she won the Department's Creative Non-fiction Award and the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Fiction Award from Virginia Commonwealth University. She will read a memoir, "Dress Right Dress," based upon her service as a Navy Corpsman during the Vietnam War.

The URI Writer's Collective is under the direction of English Professor Don Kunz of N. Kingstown, Assistant Professor Stephen Barber of Providence, and Tina Letcher of Kingston a URI English Dept. graduate and author. Most readings will feature URI faculty, staff, alumni, or graduate students, but occasionally, other authors will be showcased. University alumni, faculty, staff, or graduate students interested in reading their work may contact Kunz at 874-4337 or by email at
