John Bennett Memorial Service at URI
KINGSTON, R.I. -- February 10, 1999 -- The University of Rhode Island
Athletics Department and the University community will hold a memorial service
on campus for John Bennett on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Memorial
Union Ballroom. The service will be conducted by University chaplains.
Bennett played on the men,s basketball team from 1994 through 1998. He
was a member of the team that advanced to the 1998 NCAA Elite Eight Championship
game. He graduated from URI last spring with a degree in communications.
Bennett died Monday, Feb. 8 due to complications from injuries suffered
in a car accident in which he was involved 12 days earlier. He was driving
a car on Route 95 just north of Route 4 when his car hit a patch of ice
and collided with a van.
The public is invited to the memorial service as the University remembers
John Bennett and his days at URI.
A John Bennett Memorial Fund has been established to help defray the
