New URI web page gives the big news picture

KINGSTON, R.I. — July 12, 2010 — There’s a hot new spot to see what’s news at the University of Rhode Island. It’s URI Today, an active web page from which the University’s news, events, video, social media, blogs and more are accessible to all. Like a daily newspaper the site features new content every day.

Published by the Department of Communication and Marketing in the Division of University Advancement, URI Today includes dynamic photography, timely and compelling stories, and fresh, newsworthy content. It’s a new page for the department that has links to all press releases, the speaker’s bureau, the calendar of events, Next Week@URI and other department information.

The stories that are written for URI Today focus on some of URI’s hidden gems and things that are interesting and fun that might otherwise never be noticed. URI Today provides a venue for coverage of news that isn’t routinely ‘covered’ by the mainstream media and presents additional material dedicated to the online experience. It also offers an opportunity to show the university’s relationship to or input about some breaking local or global news.

Created as part of the communication department’s strategic objectives, URI Today will help to foster a digital culture at URI that encourages collaboration and community in the online world. The University has more than 16,000 undergraduate and graduate students and about 2,000 employees at four different campuses in Rhode Island.

URI Today is now the go-to place for community members, media, and visitors to be “in the know” about their University.
