Multifaceted computer science major selected for 2005 Caldwell Award
KINGSTON, R.I. -- April 12, 2005 -- Nathan G. Burnell, a senior majoring in computer science at the University of Rhode Island, has been chosen as the recipient of the Caldwell Award by the Department of Computer Science.
The Caldwell Award goes each year to the senior graduating in computer science with the best academic credentials.
Burnell, who is from Narragansett, will graduate in May at the top of a strong class of computer science majors. Not only did he show academic excellence throughout his computer science major, but he also found the time to complete a second major in computer engineering, as well as a minor in mathematics. He also found time to participate in a couple of research projects within the Computer Science Department.
In addition to his heavy academic curriculum, he volunteered as an undergraduate teaching assistant, helping both his peers and the faculty in the department.
After graduation, he will work on software development, and is considering returning to school for a masterís degree.
