URI names vice provost for information technology services

KINGSTON, R.I. Ė June 14, 2006 Ė The University of Rhode Island has named Garry Bozylinsky the new vice provost for information technology services, it was announced by M. Beverly Swan, URI provost and vice president for academic affairs. His appointment takes effect July 1.

The new position was created when the vice provost of information and technology services-dean of university libraries was separated into two separate jobs.

Bozylinsky comes to URI from the University of Northern Iowa where he had served as associate vice president for information technology services since 1997. Bozylinsky will lead URIís ongoing commitment to support and promote the strategic use of information. He will operate as the information technology policy adviser to the provost, president and other senior management. Bozylinsky will work to foster continuous improvement, including strengthening the information technology services organization. He will oversee about 60 full-time employees and 90 student employees.

In his most recent position at Northern Iowa, he has managed 70 staff and a $10 million budget across four departments. He was awarded an EDUCAUSE award for excellence in campus networking.

Prior to that, Bozylinsky was at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he served first as associate vice president of computing and then as associate provost for information technology, which included responsibility for university libraries.

He has 30 years of management experience, the last 27 in higher education, 25 of which have been in technology. For the past 19 years, he has served as the chief information officer at two different universities of 13,000 to 14,000 students.

Bozylinsky has broad understanding of the differing cultures of college, library, division, department and central technology units.

He earned his bachelorís degree in political science from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania and his masterís degree in political science from George Washington University.
