Dr. Robert Ballard, best known for his 1985 discovery of the Titanic, is sharing his expedition experiences in hopes of inspiring young people to pursue learning in science, math, and technology through exploration and discovery. For the last eighteen years he has invited students from around the world to join him, through the real time connection of tele-presence. The students witnessed, while he and his team of researchers pioneered the use of advanced deep-water archeological technology, which amazes the imagination. In this presentation, Dr. Ballard will discuss his most recent expeditions and address how using the ocean as a teaching tool can meet the National Science Education Standards and Local Standards as well as build ocean literacy for current and future generations. Dr. Robert Ballard is President of the Institute for Exploration at Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut and Director of the Institute for Archaeological Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography.
