DNA expert to speak at Forensic Seminar

KINGSTON, R.I. – April 8, 2008 - Michael Bourke, combined DNA index system (CODIS) administrator at the Connecticut State Crime Laboratory will discuss, “DNA” Apr. 11 at the University of Rhode Island’s Forensic Science Seminar.

The event will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Pastore Hall, 51 Lower College Road, Room 124, and is free and open to public.

Bourke’s expertise includes matching forensic evidence from crime scenes to the DNA profiles of felons. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of Connecticut and did postdoctoral work at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Bourke’s primary duties include using forensic DNA analysis of collected materials and validating additional DNA tests. He also gathers trace and serological evidence samples to be analyzed.
