URI’s juried student exhibition runs April 6 – May 7
KINGSTON, R.I.-March 31, 2009--The University of Rhode Island’s upcoming “Annual Juried Student Exhibition” will open April 6.
Shown each spring in the Main Gallery of URI’s Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston, it is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs April 6 through May 7. An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held in the gallery Tuesday, April 7 at 4 p.m.
Co-jurists are James Montford, director of The Bannister Gallery at Rhode Island College and nationally known artist Mary Jean Viano Crowe, associate professor of art at Stonehill College.
Montford and Crowe will select a wide range of works by beginning and advanced students. Works include painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography, through multi-media combination, video and digital imaging.
Fifteen “Excellence Awards” recognizing extraordinary efforts will be presented. The remaining works selected for inclusion will receive honorable mention status.
Winifred Brownell, dean of URI’s College of Arts and Sciences and a representative of Fidelity Investments, a major supporter of the exhibition, will present other special awards.
Main Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
