Top URI Freshman honored as University College Scholars

KINGSTON, R.I. – January 25, 2010 – The top University of Rhode Island students of the 2008-09 freshman class were formally inducted in the fall as the University College Scholars.
These students received a certificate of achievement and a $500 check from the URI Alumni Association in recognition of their success.
To be considered as a University College Scholar, students must have a grade point average that exceeds 3.97 out of a possible 4.0 in their freshman year. Then, of the 40 candidates, the students compete for the award based on the contributions they have made outside of the classroom to the community or to their future profession.
University College Scholars this year are:
Christopher Aiudi, a Pharmacy major from Woonsocket, R.I.
Courtney Barnas, a Pharmacy major from Westerly, R.I.
Hillary Brady, an English/Journalism major from North Brunswick, N.J.
Hae Jin Cho, a Pharmacy major from Korea, Republic of Korea
Matthew Colavita, a Secondary Education/Physics major from East Greenwich, R.I.
Matthew Guertin, a Secondary Education/Mathematics major from Coventry, R.I.
Mary Mcgunigal, a Classical Studies major from Warwick, R.I..
Theresa Murphy, a Marine Affairs major from Trumbull, Conn.
Jessica Soldivieri, a Pharmacy major from Bridgewater, NJ.
Brian Stack, a History/Philosophy major from Wibraham, Mass.
