Education commissioner to talk about education reform in the state

Remarks part of honor society induction at URI
WHO: Deborah A. Gist, commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the keynote speaker and honorary attendee of the University of Rhode Islandís Kappa Delta Pi initiation ceremony. Gist, a former elementary school teacher and now a powerful reform advocate, also served as state superintendent of education in Washington, D.C.
WHAT: Gist will attend Kappa Delta Piís induction ceremony, an honorary education society open to students pursuing an education or education-affiliated degree. Gistís talk is titled ďTransforming Education in a Changing World.Ē Roughly 100 new members, mostly undergraduate URI students in their junior and senior year, will be inducted into Kappa Delta Pi. The fraternity will acknowledge Gistís achievements by granting her the Kappa Delta Pi Administrator Award, and she will be awarded honorary membership.
