WHAT:
Hard hat tour of the new $75 million pharmacy building, which is in the final stages of construction. Funded by Rhode Island taxpayers through a $65 million bond issue, university funds, and private fund-raising, the new building will triple the capacity of the College of Pharmacy’s current home. The 142,000 square-foot, five-story structure will allow the college to accept more students in its six-year doctor of pharmacy program, graduate programs and new four-year bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences.

The University is seeking LEED Gold Certification for environmental design and engineering.

Formal ribbon cutting ceremonies will be Sept. 4. The building’s completion was extended for the addition of a $6 million laboratory for good manufacturing practices. A favorable construction bid and fundraising made it possible for the University to add the laboratory, which will allow URI to once again become a leader in best practices training for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and private pharmaceutical companies.
