- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Through education, training, and research, the Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies at the University of Rhode Island seeks to institutionalize and internationalize nonviolence as a process that promotes a global beloved community.
Our Center was founded to engage in various teaching, research, and outreach activities focused on the prevention of violence in all its forms, through the advancement of nonviolence social change, conflict reconciliation and peace building.
Guided by interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary models of collaboration, we are proud to offer our signature training program in Kingian Nonviolence - the nonviolent principles and strategic steps for creating nonviolent social change developed from the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We offer undergraduate students an 18 credit minor in nonviolence and peace studies, and graduate students can pursue a masters degree in education and training specializing in nonviolence and peace studies. Certification as nonviolence trainers is available through our annual International Nonviolence Summer Institute. We are especially committed to developing the the next generation of global leaders in the field nonviolence and peaceful conflict reconciliation. Join us and our growing international registry of nonviolence trainers and leaders as we spread Nonviolence and Peace into the 21st century!
