Professor Brown graduated from Duke University with a BS in nursing, and from the Unversity of Rhode Island with an MS in nursing, specializing in education. As Director of the Undergraduate Program in the College of Nursing. Ms. Brown's responsibilities include oversight of the Undergraduate Curriculum, scheduling courses in Kingston and at CCE in Providence, monitoring students' progress through the curriculum, mediating student-faculty problems, monitoring faculty workload and assigning courses to faculty, and coordinating the use of clinical agencies.
Professor Brown teaches NUR 474: Leadership in Contemporary Practice at the senior level, and URI 101: Traditions and Transformations at the freshman level. She also advises students in University College who are interested in nursing.
Professor Brown's research interests are in the areas of health promotion, families, and communities as clients, gerontology, and health care policy. Her dissertation work focuses on older adult couples, and is a longitudinal study of the predictors of couple longevity. She holds a certificate in Interdisciplinary Practice in Geriatrics from the Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center.
Professor Browns' service commitments include:
- Serving as the representative for the state's three baccalaureate nursing programs, to the Rhode Island Board of Nurse Registration, and Nursing Education at the Rhode Island Department of Health.
- Serving on the Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Rhode Island.
- Membership in Sigma Theta Tau (International Nursing Honor Society), Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS), American Public Health Association (APHA), and Association of Community Health Nurse Educators (ACHNE).
Community Partnerships
Community partnerships are agencies that serve as clinical sites for student learning.
