The Associate Dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Laurie Lauzon Clabo received a Baccalaureate degree in nursing from the University of Windsor (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and a Master's Degree in Nursing from Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) and a PhD in Nursing from URI. Her clinical background is in critical care nursing, especially acute care cardiology.
Before joining the faculty, Dr. Lauzon Clabo held a number of positions in nursing leadership. Her program of research builds on a long-standing interest in how nurses make decisions in practice, and in particular, how the sociocultural context of the nursing unit impacts the practice of the individual nurse.
Prior to her appointment as Associate Dean, Dr. Lauzon Clabo served two years as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Nursing. She also taught a variety of courses across the Baccalaureate, Masters and Doctoral programs in the College, with a particular emphasis on nursing leadership and deductive theory development. She was the original coordinator of the Clinical Nurse Leader concentration.
She is a member of the American Nurses Association, the Rhode Island State Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, the Eastern Nursing Research Society, and the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives. In 2005, Dr. Lauzon Clabo was named a Fuld Fellow in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Leadership for Academic Nursing Program. She serves on the Board of Trustees for Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
