Lillian Sonnenschein, MSN, APRN, BC, teaches Community Health Nursing theory and clinical at the university. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing in 1988 at Anna Maria College, Paxton Massachusetts. She is certified by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Community Health Nursing and is Board Certified by ANCC in General Nursing Practice.
Her primary area of clinical interest is caring for vulnerable populations in low income housing developments, homeless shelters and other community settings. She developed two Wellness Centers at low income housing complexes in conjunction with the Providence Housing Authority.
She has taught nursing for 22 years at various levels of education (Baccalaureate, Associate, Diploma and R.N. to BS) She has taught and/or practiced in the areas of: community health, addiction and recovery, medical-surgical, psychiatric, pediatric, coronary intensive care, and operating room nursing. She brings various nursing specialties to her community health nursing practice.
She was invited to be an item writer for the NCLEX-RN examination in 1994 and 1996. She has a strong interest in incorporating technology into her teaching which resulted in the development of two Web-enhanced nursing courses. .
Community partnerships are agencies that serve as clinical sites for student learning. The College of Nursing has excellent placements available throughout the state of Rhode Island and the bordering states.
