Research Interests
Pediatric nursing; computers in nursing.
Professor Mary Louise Palm obtained her Baccalaureate Degree from St. Joseph College, Emmittsburg, MD. She worked as a pediatric staff nurse in Illinois before moving to Rhode Island. She completed her Master's Degree in nursing at URI in 1975, specializing in education. She began teaching pediatric nursing in 1977.
While pediatric nursing remains her clinical specialty, she also teaches Health Assessment in the undergraduate program and advises the freshmen students.
The use of computers in nursing education and health care is an additional interest. Professor Palm has authored several computer aided instruction programs related to pediatric nursing and actively incorporates computer technology in her courses utilizing the University's WebCT program.
A past president of Delta Upsilon Chapter-at-Large of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Nursing Honor Society, Professor Palm remains active in the chapter serving on the Newsletter and Membership Committees. She welcomes inquiries about the Honor Society, its services, and ways to actively participate in the chapter or international activities.
Community partnerships are agencies that serve as clinical sites for student learning. The College of Nursing has excellent placements available throughout the state of Rhode Island and the bordering states.
