Marylee Evans, M.S., R.N.

Assistant Clinical Professor
University of Rhode Island
(401)874-5312
e-mail: mle@uri.edu

Professor Evans is a graduate of Salve Regina University and the University of Rhode Island.  She is a native Rhode Islander who has been teaching nursing for a total of 37 years.  Maternity, Pediatrics, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Health Promotion, Death and Dying, Fundamentals of Nursing and Senior Leadership are some of the courses she has taught over the years.

Back in the early 1970’s, Professor Evans was one of the creators of the college’s death and dying course, which she still teaches and continues to enjoy today.  In addition, she spends most of her teaching energy with the freshmen and sophomore nursing students and advising RN students returning to school for their BS degree.  Other activities include chairing the college’s Educational Resource Committee and the Nurses Christian Fellowship.  She is also active on the Thanatology Endowment Committee which oversees various thanatology educational workshops, the minor in Thanatology, and the Thanatology certificate program.

Much of her time at the college is also devoted to writing grants for equipment, student scholarships, and innovative technologies.  One such proposal gave the college the opportunity to develop state-of-the-art simulation learning, a major teaching and learning strategy of the undergraduate curriculum.  Her vision is to renovate the classrooms into “smart” and “interactive” classrooms transforming nursing education to produce graduates who are ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Please contact her if you are interested in learning more about nursing as a career or are an RN returning for a BS degree.
