Wylie Dassie received his Bachelor and Master's of Science in Nursing degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida. Professor Dassie is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Florida with the specialty focus of adult and geriatric health care.

Professor Dassie has been responsible for teaching medical-surgical nursing content in the classroom and clinical setting at URI. He is also a staff member of the Miriam Hospital (a Magnet Hospital) on the Cardiac Telemetry and Bariatric Surgery Unit.

Mr. Dassie is also Chair of the Diversity Committee in the College of Nursing and a member of several professional organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.

Professor Dassie's research interests include acute care, medical and surgical nursing, primary care, men's health issues, minority health issues, and international health care.
