The generation of research-based knowledge is incomplete unless it reaches clinicians at the point of care. Dr. Dufault's program of translation research spans 30 years and focuses on the development and testing of a Collaborative Model for Research Utilization. Aimed at integrating research to improve patient, clinician, student, and organizational outcomes, the model links academic scientists and students with clinicians in translation research teams to integrate findings into policy, standards for care, and "best practices." As the author of the model, she has led over 80 research roundtables on a variety of clinical topics. Significant outcomes have been achieved in student/clinician competency in using research, improving attitudes towards research, and in changing clinician practice, especially in the areas of pain management and non-drug comfort enhancements of music, cognitive interventions, and massage.
As a graduate and undergraduate faculty member, Dr. Dufault teaches in the content areas of research, leadership, nursing administration, and evidence-based practice. Locally, Dr. Dufault is a Research Consultant to the Nursing Department at the Newport Hospital, and provides leadership to sustain their recent attainment of the prestigious Magnet Award.
Dr. Dufault provides consultations and has presented to nurse researchers in the United States, China, Canada, Europe, and Australia on translational research and is a member of the International Editorial Board for Worldview on Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing, and Advances in Nursing Science.
