Contemporary Oral Communication. Analysis of contemporary rhetorical theories as they relate to speaking in business, civil rights, education, government, labor, law, and religion. Focus each semester on a critical contemporary issue. This course surveys and analyzes the rhetoric of films concerned with returning War Veterans as they are depicted in modern cinema. The course is ultimately a rhetorical criticism and/or theory course, but a student will be able to succeed having had no prerequisites in these areas. The rhetoric of these films will be the focus of research and discussion, but there will be clear and vital introduction of rhetorical practices in film study. Specifically, the cinematically depicted struggles of Veterans' return to daily life will be examined for rhetorical significance.
