During Orientation, you will meet with an academic advisor to choose classes for your first semester at URI. To help you make the right choice of math course to take, your advisor will look at your level and performance in high school math courses, your SAT scores, and URI’s online Math Placement Exam.

You must complete the Placement Exam at least 48 hours prior to your Orientation session so we can make sure you are properly advised into the appropriate math course.

Who should take this exam?
There are two parts to the Math Placement Exam.

Part 1 of the exam is required to be taken by all new students.

Part 2
of the exam is required for all students interested in majoring in the following areas:

  • Pharmacy
  • Engineering
  • Business
  • All majors in the College of Environment and Life Sciences
  • All sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Computer Sciences, Marine Biology, Animal Sciences, etc.)

Don't worry about your score!  We'll discuss the results with you at Orientation. This test is only one part of the information we will use to advise you about which math course to take.
